Happy Independence!!!

I would like to wish all the Indians in every part of the world A Very Happy Independece Day. Let us remember the sacrifice of our freedom fighters and cherish the Independence we have got. In todays world Indians are scattered in all parts of the globe some are fortunate enough to be with their families and raise their kids in new country, a new environment. But let us not forget to instill same love for the country which we have. It is very important for our kids to know the history of our country, so that they start respecting it. We are working abroad to fulfill our responsibilities but many times we do it unwillingly. We should instill such values among youngsters of our country that they don't leave our country in search of greener pastures and serve it instead.

How to deal with Child Tantrums

Gone are the days, when our parents use to hit us or lock us in the room, or if more strict, deprive us of our favourite food or just stop talking to us, when we use to throw tantrums. That was in older days( three decades to be precise).
Nowadays, things have changed and at some point of time we would have been in same situation and did not know what to do. I use to pity kids who use to get spanking from their mother's while in mall's or park. But, even I had faced embarassment after becoming a parent and now Iknow how tough it is to deal in that particular situation. Needless to say, now I pity poor parents.
When I faced same situation for the first time I did not know what to do? whom to ask for help? Then immediately I invested in a book on child psychology(net was not so powerful at that time). The very first thing it said was to keep calm, ( I remembered I was shouting on top of my voice and getting more hysterical than my child). I came to know that sometimes kids just want some attention and this is their way of showing it. Its also necessary to know the cause of the tantrum, some times hungriness or sleepiness is behind such behaviour, so it better you feed your child and allow him to take a nap.
While you are in public place the best solution is leave from that palce even if your child is kickin g and screaming. If the child is older is better to expalin it to him that you would talk to him only if he calms down, in this way he will understand that you ar ignoring him because of his unacceptable behaviour.
Still toddlers tantrums are more manageable than the monster tantrums thrown by older children. But the key here also is to remain calm and rational, yet firm. Its very important for your child to know that this will never get him what he wants and that there are ways more effective to communicate.

The People's Micro-Car? TATA Na......No

After surrounding in many controversies the People's car- The Tata Nano was launched last month. Its a promised fulfilled by Mr Ratan Tata and hats off to the dream maker. Its a dream of India's 65 percent of the of Indian middle class families fulfilled in just $ 2000. And its a remarkable achievement, Its going to put Indian car industry on global map and do a lot good for our economy without doubt.

But......What about the killer traffic of the Indian cities???? What about the suffocating pollution??? What about the daily increase in number of road accidents??? And just the thought about it makes me shudder.

I am the part of a Indian metropolitan city and have experienced and gone through difficulties of road development work(thanks to PWD the work is always behind schedule),the killer traffic where travelling amidst it is a challenge, and daily challenge to many persons who depend on road. A quater of their life goes in traffic jam. One such incident i will never forget was when we started two and half hours before for the airport( thought the distance is hardly 30km) and when we reached near the airport after two and half hours, there was a hour long traffic jam at the airport only due to some police barricade but, there was no police for checking and i would have certainly missed my flight but, lucky me!

There are many such incidents happening to commuters daily and now after the launch of the most affordable car the situation is going to be more grim.

If only the government spends more money to develop infrastructure than on election the situation will be better, or the day is not far when people's car would give people nightmare of travelling by road.

Because.....We Are Indians.

I would like to share this incident because I am an Indian. This actually happened to my husband who went to passport office to submit application for a new passport (he actually went short of pages). Now there is some rennovation work going on in the building ( no mention in the website....for our convinience sake ofcourse) due to which there was serpentine queue ending all the way out of the gate of the embassy.

Now no choice but to stand in the queue ( mind you its hard job unless you don't qualify in the art) numbly. My husband hates WAITING quiet punctual where time matters. But he hardly had an option. So he came to know that the security is sending peoples batchwise in the gate. Sun here was little lazy but after half an hour came in its full glory only to make the wait more worse and sweaty. After an hour a good thing happened... my husband was standing just near the gate Yipppeee! and after sometime he was the lucky one ( credit goes to securitywallah) he entered the gate. Now his heart went to all the people waiting outside the gate. Yes the gate was very important during that time. After an hour he forwarded his application to the passport officer only to find that he has to bring photocopies of his old passport. Well one thing is very good about our Indian Embassy, they have provided the photocopier machine in the embassy itself. So he went towards the copier to find that the queue here was as big as the passport queue. He has to wait in that queue for an hour till his turn came. Now his temper was rising more because of the inefficient system.

During the wait he also helped many such persons who just entered the embassy in hope that someone will help them in filling there forms, with not even a writable pen. But my husband was intelligent enough to tell someone to hold the line till his number in the photocopier queue came. And after gruelling three hours he managed to submit his application. A feeling of victory ...for sure.

My advice: If anyone going to Embassy(Indians Anywhere) please call and check any renovation work going on etc. and avoid....still can't, then please carry a foldable chair,a battery operated fan and 3-4 snacks with you. Happy Waiting.

Gold Gold Everywhere

Surprising isn't it??? When all the stock indices are at all time low, When there is cutting down of jobs like farmers eager to trim down his produce, when the purchase power is low then who is buying gold???
Why are Gold prices touching all time high? Gold has always been "The Precious Metal" ofcourse, my husband is well aware of it, he would never venture in the gatherings where "gold' was the topic and shopping for it was totally an alien thing. But that was few years back when the metal was not that expensive. I really don't know how he will react now if i utter the "Gold"word.
I just hope this metal does not come in the category of "Only for rich" and bloggers like us can well afford it. Hope So.

Delhi 6- Worth a Dekho

This movie came for me in a toss. Yes, really, as my kids and hubby wanted to see the other King Khan starter movie but eventually it was me who won the toss. And we headed for Delhi 6.
You can term this movie in the bracket of all the 'KJO' movies termed to woo the NRI audiences but , with difference. This movie is not at all picturised is Big Apple nor Pear. This takes you straight in bylanes of Chandni chowk or Old Delhi.
I have been to Delhi, but that time i didn't know where i was ( i was just 6 yaar) i do have some friends from Delhi and looking at them i can make out how the director ( who himself is dilliwala) has projected Old Delhi so well.
Small things like the cotton weaver, the chaotic traffic, the cows on streets , the Ram Leela etc reminds us of our childhood days. And for audience who watch the movie miles away from India sometimes yearn to go back.
Abhishek is a NRI lad who comes to India to fulfill his Grandmother( Waheeda Rehman's) wish to die on Indian soil. No sooner he lands he comes across the news heading of sighting a "Kaala Bandar" (Black Monkey). The director here has projected the Kaala Bandar to symbolise the beast within us. Our intolerable nature where brothers have built a wall in their house only to leave the gosipping co sister in laws ,how untouchability is still prevalent, and our total intolerance as far as religion is concerned. In total the movie is remarkably directed by Rakeysh and all the actors have played their part to perfection. Especially Abhishek is a brilliant !(blame Drona on the director, Please).

Sonam is very fresh and charming and AR Rahman's music is again 'Jai Ho'. Totally a must watch movie were the feel is "India Calling".

Joining Spree!!!

http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/story.aspx?id=NEWEN20090084041

More and more famous names are being heard joining politics. And now is our one time best(bribed) cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin joining the bandwagon.
With little hope left among the masses about the role of so called ministers, mainly after the Taj Attack it is to be seen how tainted cricketers and flimstars rule us in this coming years.

Teen Killers

http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/story.aspx?id=NEWEN20090083894
This is very disturbing. I look upon my 11year old and shudder. This is what is happening in the outside world? First it was teenagers going rampant in college campus killing fellow students but that was not in India was our attitude.
We try our best to give good education, and instill good values as a resposible parent. But then where we are going wrong? Time has come where we should stop thinking 'Its not happening to us' and 'we are safe'.
We Satisfy their demand for increasingly expensive digital gadgets, take them on world tour buy them all the comfort which A,B, and C has. But do we know his likes, dislikes .
I feel there should be more communication between parents and kids.

I think time has now come to look into ourselves! and time has come now to TALK.
