Raining Metro!!

Being Mumbaite, one can feel the gruesome task of travelling in the city dreadful. It takes hours together to reach your destination. But things were not the same some decades back. Getting into a a public transport was much easier job, wallet and time wise. But due to the growing Indian economy and population, things have changed a lot. You get goosebumps now at the thought of using public transport or to that matter travelling inland by road. How can one forget the 'killer traffic of Aamchi Mumbai'.
But things are looking promising now with the addition of Metro Project. There are plans of introducing the Light Rail Transport to different part of Mumbai suburbs. Pleasantly surprising is the news that the Metro is being planned in Navi Mumbai Suburb too. Being a Navi Mumbaite this was a pleasant news to hear. The work is going to start in May and is going to cover 11.5 km in first phase.
It will be dream come true to all the travellers who are facing lot of stress in commuting within Mumbai.

Happy Independence!!!

I would like to wish all the Indians in every part of the world A Very Happy Independece Day. Let us remember the sacrifice of our freedom fighters and cherish the Independence we have got. In todays world Indians are scattered in all parts of the globe some are fortunate enough to be with their families and raise their kids in new country, a new environment. But let us not forget to instill same love for the country which we have. It is very important for our kids to know the history of our country, so that they start respecting it. We are working abroad to fulfill our responsibilities but many times we do it unwillingly. We should instill such values among youngsters of our country that they don't leave our country in search of greener pastures and serve it instead.

How to deal with Child Tantrums

Gone are the days, when our parents use to hit us or lock us in the room, or if more strict, deprive us of our favourite food or just stop talking to us, when we use to throw tantrums. That was in older days( three decades to be precise).
Nowadays, things have changed and at some point of time we would have been in same situation and did not know what to do. I use to pity kids who use to get spanking from their mother's while in mall's or park. But, even I had faced embarassment after becoming a parent and now Iknow how tough it is to deal in that particular situation. Needless to say, now I pity poor parents.
When I faced same situation for the first time I did not know what to do? whom to ask for help? Then immediately I invested in a book on child psychology(net was not so powerful at that time). The very first thing it said was to keep calm, ( I remembered I was shouting on top of my voice and getting more hysterical than my child). I came to know that sometimes kids just want some attention and this is their way of showing it. Its also necessary to know the cause of the tantrum, some times hungriness or sleepiness is behind such behaviour, so it better you feed your child and allow him to take a nap.
While you are in public place the best solution is leave from that palce even if your child is kickin g and screaming. If the child is older is better to expalin it to him that you would talk to him only if he calms down, in this way he will understand that you ar ignoring him because of his unacceptable behaviour.
Still toddlers tantrums are more manageable than the monster tantrums thrown by older children. But the key here also is to remain calm and rational, yet firm. Its very important for your child to know that this will never get him what he wants and that there are ways more effective to communicate.

The People's Micro-Car? TATA Na......No

After surrounding in many controversies the People's car- The Tata Nano was launched last month. Its a promised fulfilled by Mr Ratan Tata and hats off to the dream maker. Its a dream of India's 65 percent of the of Indian middle class families fulfilled in just $ 2000. And its a remarkable achievement, Its going to put Indian car industry on global map and do a lot good for our economy without doubt.

But......What about the killer traffic of the Indian cities???? What about the suffocating pollution??? What about the daily increase in number of road accidents??? And just the thought about it makes me shudder.

I am the part of a Indian metropolitan city and have experienced and gone through difficulties of road development work(thanks to PWD the work is always behind schedule),the killer traffic where travelling amidst it is a challenge, and daily challenge to many persons who depend on road. A quater of their life goes in traffic jam. One such incident i will never forget was when we started two and half hours before for the airport( thought the distance is hardly 30km) and when we reached near the airport after two and half hours, there was a hour long traffic jam at the airport only due to some police barricade but, there was no police for checking and i would have certainly missed my flight but, lucky me!

There are many such incidents happening to commuters daily and now after the launch of the most affordable car the situation is going to be more grim.

If only the government spends more money to develop infrastructure than on election the situation will be better, or the day is not far when people's car would give people nightmare of travelling by road.
